Creating A Safe Home And Home Modification
According to statistics accidents in the home account for a large percentage of the total number of all injuries and death.

Many seniors prefer to live in their own home. Many times it is necessary for you to make arrangements for them to live in your home. Regardless of which home they are in, the important thing to remember is that seniors as well as children must reside in an environment which provides the best safety to meet their needs. By preparing, you will not only provide protection but create a situation which permits more independence for them.

If your loved one is an elder, take a tour of the home with them. Keep your eyes open to view things from a newer perspective so that you can troubleshoot when things need changing.

If major construction or home modification improvements are needed, keep in mind that there are tax credits and financial assistance that may be available to you, depending on your circumstances and eligibility.

You will see individual categories under home safety and modification so be sure to check them out.

There is a great deal of research that you will have to do to assure the independence and safety for your loved one. Prepare to spend time time and pay heed to the precautions and to everything on the lists as they will be of great value to you.

Empowering Caregivers

Ms. Mitchell is the President and Founder of NOFEC. Her full-time caregiving experience began in the early eighties when her husband was diagnosed with cancer. Later on she became the primary caregiver for her father, along with her mother who had become critically ill from burnout prior to her dads passing. In recent years, she cared for several friends with AIDS while continuing to care for her mother and actively providing support, information, referrals and resources for caregivers.

Prior to founding NOFEC, she created the iVillageHealth Chat: Empowering Caregivers, which she hosted for over 5 years. Within a month of hosting she created Empowering Caregivers: www.care-givers.com in 1999 as a resource for caregivers around the globe. Over three million visitors have frequented the website.

Gail's leadership on the Internet and her success with Empowering Caregivers led her to found National Organization For Empowering Caregivers (NOFEC) INC in 2001.

She presents at national and international care-related conferences and programs and has been a keynote speaker for many programs as well.
